When I woke, I was in my bedroom, and Coline was sitting by my bed, reading one of my books. I looked around the room, it seemed to be noon, and it was very hot. The windows were open, and the curtains were thrown back, and the sun flooded the room. Sitting up, I scowled at Coline. “What the hell are you doing?” I groaned. Coline turned around, and frowned at me. “Young lady, princesses don’t use that foul language! You’re lucky you’re sick, or else I’d soap your mouth!” Scowling, I rolled over, pulling my blankets over my head. Coline snatched them back. “Get up, and go eat something. You’ve been out for 2 days.” Huffing, I sat up, and snatched my kimono up from the chair nearby, I stomped out the room.
Walking down the hall, I suddenly felt dizzy, and felt a sharp stab of pain in my abdomen. One of the guards walked over, and asked “Are you ok your highness?” I straightened up, and grimaced, and waved him away. I walked on, and was stopped by my younger step-brother, Liam . “Hey! Hey, Aliya, can I talk to you?” he asked. “Um, I’m going to eat breakfast, so...can I have a few minutes?” I squirmed. “Okay, first, it’s 3 in the afternoon. And, I’ll keep you company anyway, I’m hungry too!” Liam said energetically. I sighed, and pushed the dinner hall door open.
One of the maids hurried up to me, and said “Your highnesses, do you require something?” “I’d like some food to eat please. And my step-brother would too...” I sighed, looking at Liam with faint distaste. The maid curtsied, and asked, “What kind of food would you require?” I shrugged my shoulders, and was about to say something, when a different voice answered. “Aliya and I will have something light, and Liam will have an apple.”
I whipped around, and smiled in relief. David was standing there, with his right arm in a sling. He was wearing a simple white button-up shirt, and a pair of brown pants. His sandy-brown hair was all mussed up, and he had a slightly grouchy look. Liam elbowed me in the stomach, and leaned over, as high as he could reach, and whispered, “You’re staring Aliya...” I looked down at him, and scowled.
“Liam , why don’t you go and experiment with your science?” David hinted. “But I found a new hypothesis I want to test!” he whined. Liam huffed, and stamped his foot. “But I need you!” David sighed, and shifted his arm in the cast. “I’m trying to talk to my step-sister, can’t you hold on for a few minutes?” Liam just scowled, and stormed out the room.
David pulled out a chair, and told me to sit down. I blurted out, “Why was Meryl here? Was she always like this?” David just stared at me for a few minutes. Finally he sat down on the edge of the table, next to me. Looking down at me, he said slowly “Meryl...was a different person. Her mood changes every day. It’s either grouchy, or she’s really happy. One of the things I didn’t like about her was that she was always secretive, no matter what.” David paused, as a large silence filled the room, with the exception of the clatter in the kitchen. I gazed out the arched window, at the fluffy white clouds.
“Oh. I always knew she was temperamental.” I mumbled. David laughed nervously, and sighed, “She is very tetchy. Say something wrong, and she goes flying into a mood.” I laughed. David looked at me with that familiar glint in his eyes. The kitchen door burst open, and the maid who took our orders hurried up to the table. She set down 2 plates of scrambled eggs, and bacon. “Enjoy your dinner!” she said, before disappearing again in the kitchens.
“Whatever, you can do it another day Liam. We have all the time in the world.” David said patiently, steering Liam out firmly by the shoulder. After Liam was out of the room, David returned, and sat down by the fire. He was strikingly handsome, with brown-blonde hair, and piercing gray eyes. He had long legs, and long arms, with a lean body. “Did you hear me?” he asked. “Huh? Oh, yes, what’d you say?” I asked. “I said, I’m sorry about Liam, he can be such a nuisance sometimes. What are you here for?” he repeated. “Oh, it’s ok, my younger sister is like that. And our dear mother just gave me some surprising news!” I said.
“What kind of news would that be?” he asked. “Well, let’s just say that we’re going to be living together soon.” I said. “Like, how...?” he asked tenativley. “We’re engaged.” I whispered, scared of his response. I expected some kind of outburst, or discomfort, but only one came true. “Um...how come I haven’t heard of this?” he trailed off, looking out the window. “Mother just told me, she called me to her rooms a few minutes ago.” I responded. “Ok, well, that was a lot to digest in a day!” he laughed, attempting to lighten the mood. I smiled politely, and not knowing what to do, I stood up.
Apologizing for interrupting, I turned towards the door. “Thank you for telling me.” David said, not turning to look at me. I was just leaving his room, when I saw a shadow rush towards me, and something stab me in the stomach. Doubling over in pain, I groaned, and fell onto a chair, and missed. David got up, and ran towards me. “Ugh...” I groaned, as David pulled me up by the arms. He held me up, because I started to fall again. “Hey! Can I talk to you?” a smug voice asked in a demanding tone. “Meryl? What are you doing here?” David asked. Looking over towards the figure standing in front of me, I looked at her.
She was a tall girl, with waist~length wavy blonde hair. She had glowing green eyes, like Fayge’s, but hers were more vibrant and evil looking. She was wearing a simple brown tunic with a belt around her waist holding various knives and weapons. She had a deceiving smile, revealing her fangs. Meryl’s a vampire, but she’s one of the few that are immortal.
You see, there are 10 different types of vampires, and each number is called a Rank. Ranks 1-3 are the most dangerous of all, Ranks 4-7 are dangerous, and Ranks 7-10 are the most original, but still deadly. This blonde is Meryl Whitmore, and she is Rank 2.
Meryl Whitmore is one of David’s ex-evil girlfriends. She killed my real mother, Annalise Dorian Foster, and my step-mother. She tried to kill Irina, but failed. “I, am here to ask what’s new.” she said, slowly advancing towards us. “I am not telling you, because last time, you tried to kill us, remember?” David snapped. “Oh, yes, I forgot, silly me!” Meryl flashed a fake smile.
She reached behind her back, and said “I didn’t mean to do that! In fact, I was out trying to kill somebody else!” she sneered. “Meryl, what do you want?” David asked patiently. Meryl sneered, and hissed, “My master has ordered me to come here.” David set me down on the chair, because I started bleeding. “Ugh...” I groaned, looking at my blood soaked dress. Meryl continued to smile, and David asked “Who’s your ‘master’?” Meryl sneered and said, “He’s a very respectable man, unlike you, living under your father’s roof.” David rolled his eyes, and sighed, “I’m pretty sure he’s not rich, he’s probably a poor homeless man.”
Meryl’s eyes gleamed bright red, and she turned away. Looking around, I tried to find her, but she seemed to vanish. Suddenly, David yelled in pain. I popped my neck, twisting my head to find him, and when the black dots disappeared, There was blood on the floor, and I didn’t want to know the source. I looked up, and Meryl had thrust a silver dagger in his upper arm. She hissed as she smiled, “I wouldn’t suggest insulting my master, enfant.” David groaned, and collapsed against Meryl. Meryl hissed at him, and darted backwards. David fell onto the floor, into a pool of blood. I screamed, and Meryl looked at me. She thrust her hand at me, and chanted a spell. “Tomber dans les bras de la mort.” The next thing I knew, I had passed out on the bed.
